Sushi Ai in Long Beach

This place is a perfect example of the local community. We love the honest and happy welcoming atmosphere, the awesome 90s rock songs, the variety of the menu; ranging from authentic Japanese to southern California spin on traditional dishes. What is most important to my family and I is that this restaurant participates in many of the local 2nd Street events. Especially strollin saver. We love meeting with the owner and the staff. They are more than just sushi, they're a part of the local community. Keep up the great work.Ps. Thank you for giving my daughter one of those decorative umbrellas on our way out. It made her day for sure.

We came here for lunch while on vacation and the meal was delicious! Fish was incredibly fresh.

The staff is just very friendly and so welcoming. The overall atmosphere is very nice. The food is always fresh and they have a really great selection of sushi and other kind of food. If you're a fan of bowls they also have poke bowls. They also have a really nice bar area where you can watch the chefs make the food. I also like this place because they have an outdoors area where you can bring your dog. They also have heaters and it's very pleasant on a windy or colder day.

I've always loved Sushi Ai. Better than Sushi on Fire and way less crowded.

Sushi wasn’t bad but not extraordinary either. Service could’ve been better, our waitress might have been having an off day. Decent meal.

Great happy hour and good sushi

I really enjoy that there's an outdoor sitting area. The restaurant was very clean. Our waitress for the evening was very enjoyable. It was a nice selection of sashimi and sushi. I will be returning to this restaurant. I enjoyed my crazy roll. Also my fresh cucumber wrapped Sushi was delicious.

The stinky roll is the best roll in town. Albacore with deep fried garlic and onion sprinkled on top of it. Buttery and amazing!

This place sometimes is good, but sometimes is not that good. I used to go very often for lunch, but a couple of times I got what was supposed to be chicken breast that was most likely not chicken breast. I am still wondering whether it was real chicken or who knows what it really was.It was hard like a rock, my fork and knife couldn't get through at all. I showed it to the staff and I tried to cut it in front of them so they could see it by themselves. The table was shaking as I tried to cut it to no avail.They had no explanation why the chicken was so hard. That was a turn off. Most times customer service is good, but sometimes depending on the waitress the service is not that good. I really dislike when they bring a hardly warm miso soup cup that is less than half full. The waitress only said "I am sorry about that". She didn't even offer to replace it.It happened in a few occasions I am not eager to back to this place anymore.

The young woman serving was incredibly rude. Won't come here again.

Sushi Ai is really really good, happy hour all day, I love the happy hour choices good sushi! I try to come by once a week, hot sake and a Asahi on draft. Happy hour menu has changed a bit but still good deals. Sushi always taste fresh, and the service is always very nice.

Excellent food, great Jap atmosphere

We like it more then sushi on fire. Have to update my review. Update now from 10/2018. Change in amount of of total rolls served in the restaurant. The size of each roll is a lot smaller now. Quality of rolls is down. Still will eat here but not so happy with over experience now. 3.5 stars. I have the feeling they might be shutting down ?

Some of the freshest most delicious sushi I've ever had. Wish I was somewhere I visited more often so I can go again. A+++ stuff.

Draft Sapporo which is nice, fresh fish, good happy hour, easily on par with with other sushi spots on 2nd.

Great little place and solid sushi

Good food, bad experience. Service was lackluster to say the least. Restaurant was less than half full on a Sunday night, we did not get a drink order taken for 15 minutes, and food another 15 after that. The food itself was quite good when it arrived, though our server perhaps forgot our gyoza as that took an hour and a reminder. No discount, one small apology for the wait. I'm in the service industry, I understand we all have bad nights. Let's assume it was a very bad night for my server.

Love this place, we've come here a hundred times and every time the food and service is exemplary. The best "bang for your buck".

Delicious, delicious, delicious. Everything we had was excellent and we recommend this establishment. The waitress was helpful and attentive. The gyoza was perfect. The rolls we had were wonderful... They almost took us back to Japan.

Lame sashimi, slow service even when the place was empty, all food is below average. They took the sashimi off the bill, when I told them it didn't taste good. I wonder where the 5 star reviews are coming from...

The food was great... My chirashi bowl was exactly what I was craving! It was really fresh, well prepared and presented. The staff was amazingly friendly and the patio is dog friendly, which is a plus as we have dogs of course! Keiko approves!

very nice place to eat sushi

I eat in this spot a lot since I work in the area. I love how the service is always fantastic and they keep the place neat at all times. Rates are convenient and they serve sizeable portions.

The Hawaiian roll is best! Followed by a close second in the Baja roll. The cilantro adds magnificent kick.

Wonderful service, wonderful staff all together. The food was delicious and well prepared. This place makes their own teriyaki sauce and it has a great flavor. I highly recommend the unagi bowl. Restrooms were clean
